Police Rehabilitation Centre – The New Gymnasium Extension

BAP has a long established relationship with Police Rehabilitation Centre, going back to the early 1990s. The Police Rehabilitation Centre has been located at Goring-on-Thames since 1985 when the Trustees purchased Flint House, a 75 year old Grade 2 listed country house, and converted it into a Police Rehabilitation Centre. Works previously done by BAP include the 1992 extension of the original Flint House to provide a new Gymnasium, Hydrotherapy Pool, Physio area and 30 bedroom wing; then in 2001 we designed and oversaw the construction of the new Flint Fold 60-bed facility with connecting link to the Flint House building. In 2010 BAP were again commissioned to construct a 14-bed extension onto the Flint Fold Building and another 11-bed extension on the Flint House building.

In January 2018 BAP were appointed to design a new gymnasium extension to expand the centre’s rehabilitation facilities. The existing gymnasium was in need of expansion and the ceiling heights were generally too low to meet the centre’s requirements. At the heart of BAP’s proposal was a new double height extension which linked into the existing adjoining spaces to create a large airy open plan gymnasium. A new internal office with glazed walls was also constructed and a new air conditioning system provided.

BAP took the design through planning and listed building consent in June 2018 with works commencing on site September 2018 and completion achieved in April 2019. The project was completed on time and within budget.
