Barking Skills College is a new build college for 400 students located right in the centre of Barking.
The College is for 14-19 year olds and will provide vocational education and training for Catering; Hospitality; Hair and Beauty; Construction and IT.
BAP were the architects and lead consultant for the design and build phase of the project taking the planning approved proposals and developing through stage E to construction information and works on site.
The building is a 6 storey concrete frame. The external envelope is predominantly stack bonded brickwork with areas of curtain wall glazing and zinc cladding.
The building is to achieve a BREEAM “Excellent” rating.
The building along with a public new square offers a new community facility for students and the public. The Bistro will provide the public face, and linked to the training kitchens will provide an interactive face between the local community and the college.
